About Me
I am a
recreational scuba scuba diving and underwater photography enthusiast
based in Thailand. I took up underwater photography in late 2002. I
started from a very basic setup with just a digital point and
shoot camera and housing , using internal flash, shooting in automatic
mode and slowly learning my way around the camera and underwater
photography. My equipment also became more and more elaborated as the
years progress but that is all part of the fun! Luckily I
don't have to rely on scuba diving or photography for my livelihood so
I can just enjoy the hobby and not have to worry about anything (except
how to pay for my next trip and next toy).
After accumulating
lots of images and a few good one here and there, I decided to create
my website so I can share some of the better pictures with everyone. I
hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I am taking them.
Equipment
wise, I started with Oly C4040 at the end of 2002 with Olympus housing.
Eventually I added Ikelite housing with Ikelite DS-125
strobe to my setup. A year later, I switched to Olympus C5050 with
Ikelite housing. I also added Inon wetmount macro
lens and Inon wide angle lens and eventually Inon domeport to the
setup. I found it to be one of the most versatile setup for
digital point and shoot camera at that time.
When Nikon
D70 became available in March 2004, I decided to upgrade for
better macro ability and virtually no shutter lag. Sea and Sea
housing became available in June 2004 so My C5050 was retired at that
time and I added a second Ikelite DS-125 strobe. The setup is
much bigger and the learning curve for switching from PnS to
dSLR was not as bad as I thought but I have to confess
thtat it did take awhile to adjust to the new camera. By this time
my work has also prevented me from being able to go diving as much as I
would have liked. Just as I started to get comfortable with Nikon
D70, Nikon D2X came out. Not being able to resist, I am now
a proud (but poor) owner of a Nikon D2X. I housed the D2X in Subal housing with a GS Viewfinder.
My current lens lineup for underwtaer photography are: Nikon 10.5mm, 12-24mm, 60mm macro, 70-180mm macro.
I
would like to thank my many good divebuddies who do not only challenge
me to take better pictures, but also somehow manage to make me buy all
these new toys and keep skipping work to go diving. My sincere
thanks to my current employer who does not seem to mind very much when
I disappear once in awhile.
